Zermatt

The resort town of Zermatt lies at the foot of the Matterhorn, one of the most distinctive mountains in the world. In winter Zermatt is dominated by skiers and is part of a ski region with over 186 miles (300 kilometres) of pistes. The town has a unique charm, protected by strict planning guidelines and a ban on cars; although this ban only relates to combustion-engine cars - battery powered vehicles are permitted and you are sure to see a variety of quirky electric cars and taxis in Zermatt.

With a permanent population of fewer than 6,000, Zermatt is predominately a tourist destination, attracting visitors all year round for skiing, hiking, climbing and sightseeing.

“All the train journeys were amazing. I cannot praise the group leader enough - she was charming, efficient and looked after us all so well. The only downside for us was that we always seemed to be allocated the hotel room on the top floor with poorer facilities.

“The train tour itself was amazing and memorable. I just wish our tour manager used any of the languages in their bio that would’ve helped the group or people that didn’t speak that language. I also wish we were informed if sending your luggage ahead was an option. Lastly, I...
