Itinerary
Your central European rail holiday begins as you meet the Tour Manager at London St Pancras this morning, ready to board the Eurostar to Brussels. In the Belgian capital, we switch trains and travel to Frankfurt, from where we continue to Nuremberg. Our route takes us through lush countryside, past charming towns of romantic timber-framed buildings and alongside the winding Main River, arriving in the Bavarian city in the evening.
The historic city of Nuremberg has a beautiful Old Town dotted with medieval buildings and surrounded by fortifications. Some of the main attractions include the 11th-century imperial castle with its ancient towers and an incredible ornate fountain in the main market square. On arrival this evening, we have our first dinner together at the hotel, situated close to the station.
Please Note - For departure 8th June we will travel via Frankfurt, staying at the Intercity Frankfurt.

Enhance your holiday
Spending a night in London before your tour can make such a difference to the first day of your holiday - you can arrive in the capital in good time, relaxed and ready to join your Tour Manager the next morning. You may even want to take in a show on the West End or dine in one of London's famous restaurants. Perhaps on your return to London, you would like to break your journey with an overnight stay before continuing home.
We can book a wide range of hotels in central London or, for our holidays beginning with a flight, at Heathrow, Gatwick, or Manchester Airport for the night before or after your holiday. If you require a quote for single occupancy at any of the hotels, please contact us on 01904 734 805.
Buying tickets for UK train services can be a tricky business - there are so many fares to choose from, each with different rules and restrictions. As you are connecting with an international departure, we strongly recommend that you book a fully flexible ticket to ensure that should the departure times for your holiday change, your rail ticket can allow for these changes.
We can book fully-flexible UK rail tickets from your local station to join your holiday whether this be a European holiday from St Pancras or a UK holiday. The prices are competitive and tickets are not restricted to a particular train or time of day, and in most cases offer you a free choice of routes.
For an up to date quote from your local station, please ask one of our Tour Advisors.

A good introduction to each of the three cities, this holiday has a good balance of guided tours and individual exploration. Great Rail Journeys were good communicators before the trip and itineraries and tickets were sent out in a timely manner. Our tour manager was friendly, professional and unflappable - most glitches were caused by unforeseen practices of the rail companies. She was very concerned about our safety. The accommodation was comfortable, particularly in Vienna and Berlin and the hotel staff at all our hotels gave a high standard of service. All the tour guides were very informative and gave us a snapshot of the main sights in each city which we could return to if we wanted. However, the visit to the Jewish quarter in Prague was quite harrowing - perhaps advance warning would have been appropriate - but was important. This holiday is ideal for absorbing both the history and the contemporary vibe of each city, but be prepared for the necessary periods of inactivity on trains as well as the fast pace of exploring them and give some thought for the size of your suitcases.

An extremely interesting Rail Journey with our helpful GRJ Leader, Yvonne. The expert Local Tour Guides took us round the cities and gave us "an overview" of the wealth of places to visit, as well as informing us of helpful transport links. Although the tour was structured, busy and well organised, we had enough free time to pursue our own interests. We would certainly recommend Imperial Cities by Rail.
